Migrate to a New Server

Important: If you have set the setting for binding a specific IP (Configuration -> General -> Bind IPs on server) on your current server, you will need to either reset this setting (by creating a command file reset_ports) or set it to a new value (by creating a command file setting_bindip with the desired IP address as file content) on the new server, otherwise ISL Conference Proxy will fail to bind the old address and as a result, you will not be able to access the web administration.

Important: Please make sure your ISL Conference Proxy server is fully updated before starting the migration procedure.

We recommend using the functionality of the backup module to perform a server migration.

This approach also allows you to migrate across platforms, i.e. from a windows server to a Linux server or vice-versa.

Procedure:

  1. Enable access for your user for backup pages (refer to Add permission to access backup pages).
  2. Create a backup of the current server (refer to Create new backup, then Make backup).
Important: Make sure you mark "Files" and "Database" when selecting what to backup (step 6 of Create new backup).
  3. Transfer the whole backup directory to the new machine (e.g. through a network share, through SCP etc.).
  4. Restore the backup on the new machine (refer to the Restore backup topic).

Note: When migration is complete, some ISL AlwaysOn computers may remain connected to the old ISL Conference Proxy server, if it is still running and is accessible. ISL AlwaysOn computers will reconnect to the new server when a connection to the old server is broken (e.g. shutdown of the old server, a restart of the ISL AlwaysOn service, ...).

File approach (legacy)

We strongly suggest using the recommended server migration approach mentioned above.

This legacy approach should only be used for special cases, such as migrating an old server that cannot be updated to a version where a backup module would be available.

You should keep in mind that the steps below apply only to migrations where the target platform is the same as the source platform.

Please follow the appropriate instructions, depending on your server's operating system.

If you have any doubts, or migration questions or if you get stuck at one of the steps, you can contact us via e-mail (support@islonline.com) or come to our live chat (at http://www.islonline.com/) and we will be glad to help.

Windows

  1. Stop ISL Conference Proxy service (run net stop confproxy as administrator).
  2. Backup all the files and subdirectories in the installation directory (default location is C:\Program files\ISL Conference Proxy).
  3. Transfer the backup to the new server and extract it to the desired target directory (default location is C:\Program files\ISL Conference Proxy).
  4. Run the ISL Conference Proxy installer (you can use the latest installer from the ISL Conference Proxy directory).
  5. ISL Conference Proxy will detect existing data (settings, session history etc.) and proceed with the startup. Eventually, you should be able to access the web administration.

Linux

  1. Stop ISL Conference Proxy service (run confproxyctl stop as root)
  2. Backup all the files and subdirectories in the installation directory  (/var/confproxy). If you are archiving the backup installation directory, make sure to preserve the permissions on the files.
  3. Transfer the backup to the new server and extract it to the appropriate target directory (/var/confproxy).
  4. Run the ISL Conference Proxy installer (you can use the latest installer from the ISL Conference Proxy directory).
  5. ISL Conference Proxy will detect existing data (settings, session history, etc.) and proceed with the startup. Eventually, you should be able to access the web administration.
